Nutritional Supplements on Summer Break
School is out and vacation is here!
Omega-3 supplementation is a different from medication. Omega-3’s don’t have the negative side effects seen with many medications, so a break is not necessary, nor is it recommended. Nutritional supplementation is more like having a healthy diet to accompany exercise for the physical body’s health. If you have a healthy diet and have an exercise regimen, your body becomes healthier. If you stop working out or if you go back to unhealthy eating habits, you won’t immediately lose everything you’ve gained, but it will take longer to get back to where you were when you resume healthy eating.
Similarly, the brain uses the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA to support focus and emotional balance, but it can take time for these nutrients to accumulate and incorporate in the brain. By pausing supplementation for the summer, either the nutrients will begin to deplete once again and your child may have to start over with their behavior progress come fall, or the marked improvement will stagnate until omega-3 supplementation resumes.
This is why when you first start using Accentrate®, we make sure to mention that nutritional supplements are not a quick fix. Everyone’s genetics and nutritional needs are different. Since it can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months for you to begin to see a difference with omega-3 supplements like Accentrate®, stopping and re-starting supplements can create a difficult transition into the new school year. In fact, some people don’t notice the benefits of Accentrate® until they stop taking them after having taken them for months.
At the end of the day, we supplement with Brain Ready™ nutrition because it’s a healthy approach to focus on the nutritional component of our brain health. Most kids aren’t exercising their mind during the summer like they were in school, so neglecting the nutritional component can make September even more challenging.
